To get the latest features and maintain the security, stability, compatibility and performance of your Mac, it's important to keep your software up to date. Apple recommends that you always use the latest macOS that is compatible with your Mac.
OS X El Capitan is the latest major release from OS X, Apple Inc for Mac computers. It is a successor of Yosemite and it has a great emphasis on security and stability of the system. It has been designed to improve the performance and usability of OS X. Jun 11, 2021 Open that app from your Applications folder to begin installing the operating system. Mavericks, for instance, fell to 14% of all editions of OS X, a two-point slide that was double its earlier average. Approximately 90% of all Macs were eligible to upgrade to El Capitan when the operating system launched on Sept. El Capitan will run on the same Macs that have run Yosemite, Mavericks, 2012's Mountain Lion and 2011's Lion. Mac OS X 10.5.8 or later is recommended, including Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion). For Digital Performer, a version 7.24 maintenance update is now available and includes full compatibility with Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion). Registered DP7 owners can download the update here. DP 7.24 is required for compatibility with Lion. With OS X 10.11 El Capitan, Apple continues its annual march to newer, better, more powerful versions of Mac OS X. Best of all, El Capitan runs on the same Macs that support OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion, 10.9 Mavericks, or 10.10 Yosemite.

Check compatibility
The version of macOS that came with your Mac is the earliest version it can use. For example, if your Mac came with macOS Big Sur, it will not accept installation of macOS Catalina or earlier.
Os X Lion Vs El Capitan
If a macOS can't be used on your Mac, the App Store or installer will let you know. For example, it may say that it's not compatible with this device or it's too old to be opened on this version of macOS. To confirm compatibility before downloading, check the minimum hardware requirements:

Download macOS using Safari on your Mac
Safari uses these links to find the old installers in the App Store. After being downloaded from the App Store, the installer will open automatically.
- macOS Catalina 10.15 can upgrade Mojave, High Sierra, Sierra, El Capitan, Yosemite or Mavericks
- macOS Mojave 10.14 can upgrade High Sierra, Sierra, El Capitan, Yosemite, Mavericks or Mountain Lion
- macOS High Sierra 10.13 can upgrade Sierra, El Capitan, Yosemite, Mavericks or Mountain Lion
Safari will download the following older installers as a disk image named InstallOS.dmg or InstallMacOSX.dmg. Open the disk image, then open the .pkg installer inside the disk image. It will install an app named Install [Version Name]. Open that app from your Applications folder to start installing the operating system.

Today Apple released Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion). MOTU is working with Apple to ensure current MOTU products are compatible with Lion, and to provide a smooth transition for your MOTU products when you upgrade to Lion.
For MOTU audio and MIDI interfaces, we've created a consolidated universal audio installer that ensures that all MOTU driver and software components are up-to-date and compatible. Mac OS X 10.5.8 or later is recommended, including Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion).
For Digital Performer, a version 7.24 maintenance update is now available and includes full compatibility with Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion). Registered DP7 owners can download the update here. DP 7.24 is required for compatibility with Lion. Please refer to installer Read Me for changes and complete system requirements.

For MX4, a version 2.2.1 maintenance update is now available and includes full compatibility with Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion). Registered MX4 owners can download the update here. Downgrade Os X El Capitan To Lion
Current versions of other MOTU software appear to be compatible with Lion, although final compatibility testing is still on-going. In some cases, MOTU software updates may be available soon to achieve 100% compatibility. Check motu.com frequently for further announcements in the near future.
